Dear Summer

I'm gonna call this Hiatus. I'm busy, you're busy, hopefully you spend your summer days outside and not on the computer.

We'll be back soon.

The Olympics. I've never been happier. Women's Volleyball, mens Swimming, and Men's Basketball are the sports I've been paying closest attention to. I feel like our Volleyball dynamic duo is destined for gold again. Basketball could pull it together, and Phelps hopes to make some history(he's swimming stronger than ever).

I'm staying tuned, and so should you.

Ignorance Is Bliss

Last night, I was called less black because I don't say the N word enough. When I responded to that with a question as to why choosing to not say a word my ancestors heard as they were hung from trees made me less black, the person posing the questions changed his stance, and that being from California meant that I had to be "gangsta" and that me not using the N word made me less "gangsta."

If that was a white person, I would've shrugged it off as someone who just isn't going to get it, but as this came from a black person, I was able to reflect on it as a chance to try and bring some knowledge to those people and be the change I wish to seek.

Let me clear up that I don't care how often you use the N word, I made a personal choice to use the word less when I visited However, the whole thought that someone could be less black because of the use of a word is completely ridiculous. But it's cool, I'm sure Martin Luther King's daughter, or Emmett Till's family have great thoughts of the word.

Dear Summer

I know you gon' miss me

Well folks, it's been a long time since I've talked to you readers (still there?)

I'm Patrick, by the way, if you I haven't introduced myself before.

Anyways, now that we're all pretty much back in our college town of choice, or at least getting ready to head back to school somewhere, I figured it's time to say goodbye to summer, and give the best season of the year a recap of sorts.

For me, it began with the end of a terrible semester, my grades weren't anything to write home about, and I created a bunch of excuses for myself. I guess everybody is allowed a 'woe is me' period of time, mine lasted about 3 weeks. From that point on, things have gone well I suppose. I got good grades in summer school, sold off a lot of dead weight items (shoes), and got to be in Los Angeles for a while.

Everybody has their obstacles, and I used to run from them. Now, I embrace them openly. So for this school year, being the best isn't really a goal anymore, it's an expectation.

To everybody else: Get Your Own.

and I hope to see & talk to you soon.

I mean, it's time for me to grow
You gotta let me go baby, you gotta let me go

These guys are homies. Their music contains hot lines like Scarface's office desk, and I've given them the runthrough, so feel free to take this mixtape and do with it what you will.

Check out this article. I'm excited for our Dodgers, but I'm surprised P hasn't said anything to you guys yet. We lost, but "no one makes their first jump" (Cypher - The Matrix).
