Karmaloop

Ok so I recently got a position at Karmaloop.com as a website representative. they gave me this code that allows people to receive 20% off their first purchase with my code, and 10% every time after that. I thought it was pretty awesome and therefore I will be including a link to the website in this post. This would be the perfect time to get some of that "your own" we keep talking about. In case the link doesn't automatically enter the code for you, it's "HE24716". Holler.

Baby Daddy Drama

I don't know if he's the real baby daddy, but you guys make the final decision. What up Bristol? (too soon?)

VOTE

The good fellas of Nerdy McFly wrote a recent piece about Obama and how his DNC speech was on the anniversary of Martin Luther King's historic speech in which he asked if we could be judged on the content of our character, rather than the color of our skin.

I would say that we have reached that day, but I'm sure the parents of the Jena 6 kids and Sean Bell would disagree.

That said, I would like to impress upon the importance of voting on everyone who has the ability to do so. I have a couple of reasons, the first being that you really have no right to complain if you chose to not vote for your elected officials. The second reason is that this is the most historic election in our nation's history, something to tell your children and grandchildren about. The way my dad put it to me, is that in 50 years when your grandkids ask you if you voted for Barack Obama, the first black president of the United States, the last thing you'll want to say to them is, "Nah, I didn't vote, me and my boys went to the rec and balled instead. I didn't think my vote would matter."

He may not win the election, but I'm going to vote for him, so that if he wins I can say I voted for him, and if he loses I can say we tried. As a black man I feel as if I owe it to those who risked or lost their lives in front of rope, tree, fire hose and police dog.

Get Your Learn On

A few things you might not have known about my 3rd love, hip-hop.

1) The final verse in Weezy's "Mr. Carter" is taken directly from Jay-Z's Lucky Me.

Y'all dont even know every day I'm livin with stress

Got up out the streets you think a nigga could rest
Can't even enjoy myself at a party unless
I'm on the dance floor hot ass vest
You think I'm freakin' these chicks right?
I'try not to brush against they chest
You get a lawsuit for shit like that, I feel trapped
Swear to everything when I leave this earth
It's gon' be on both feet, never knees in the dirt
You could try me fucka but when I squeeze it hurts, fine
We'll lose two lives, yours and mines
Gimme any amount of time dont let Ms. Carter grieve
at the funeral parlor drippin' tears on my sleeve
Told the judge didn't budge it was him or me
and I ain't trying to be hard but I'm guilty as charged
Put my mercy on this court and my faith in God
And pray hard none of my nephews wanna be stars...Lucky Me

We can give Dwayne the - when I say a B.I.G. verse I'm only biggin' up my brother - credit, and assume that he's paying homage to the greatest alive, but there has been a rumor for a while that this line is tatted somewhere on Wayne's body. Suspect? Eh, not as suspect as kissing another man and getting his portrait tatted over your heart.

2) Nas and The Firm were with Aftermath. So you take Nas, Foxy, AZ and either Cormega and Nature. Then, you put them with Dre's beats. Super group's rarely work, but Nas and Dre never getting matched up quite the way they should've been, and Nas' disappearing act that we like to call I Am... and Nastradamus did come around the same time. Multiply those by the fact that Nas' largest criticism is that he can't pick beats and well, we might've missed out on something major.

3) Pharrell & Chad produced Mase's Lookin' At Me all the way back in 1997

And to finish it off, I'll leave you with a few lines

Q-Tip in "Buggin Out" on The Low End Theory
You can't get your own and that's, pitiful

Jay-Z in the aforementioned (yeah, I just said that word) "Lucky Me"
Niggas wanna strip to the bone for shit you own
Hate a nigga like that f**g*t, get your own

There's more, but I'll save those. Peace.

TH Block Party

So, I missed the block party this year, and that's the first time I've ever done so. It felt kind of nice to not have to be a "cool guy" and mean mug with my friends around people I don't necessarily like anyway. The guys at TH have always been pretty chill to me and my folks, and I respect their hustle so I like to go to their events and what not, but this time I wasn't in town. It looked like a lot of fun, and you can check out the rest of the pictures here.

Have a nice day.
